Coffee in Thailand

Some people may not be aware that Thailand is ranked fourth in Asia for annual raw coffee production (after Vietnam, Indonesia and India). There are many types or species of coffee trees worldwide but only Arabica and Robusta have any real economic significance. Both of these are grown in Thailand. Northern Thailand produces a few thousand tons of Arabica coffee almost all of which is processed locally. Southern Thailand produces approximately 50,000 to 80,000 tons of Robusta coffee some of which is processed locally and about 60% is exported. Alti Coffee is based in the northern city of Chiang Mai in Thailand so all our blends are based on Thai Arabica.

Thai Arabica Coffee Beans

The main Arabica plantations in Northern Thailand are grown in the following areas or provinces; Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Mae Hong Son and Tak. The best beans are found on the Arabica trees which are positioned at higher altitudes from around 800 to 1500 meters above sea level. The beans mature as a slower pace at this altitude which generally produces a richer, denser and more flavourful coffee bean. It could be said that Arabica is still being developed in Thailand which would explain the modest annual yields. It is typically grown by hill tribe families and villages as well as in development programs and research stations. Only a few hundred tons of beans are picked each year and most end up being purchased by local traders that sell them as a single origin coffee in one of the abundant coffee chains found in Thailand.

Royal Blend has a very strong but rich taste and is full of aroma. Dark roasted from selected different coffee beans. A perfect choice for your ice coffee as well as your strong hot coffee
